The Beauty of Grace

The other day I came across this poppy gently waving in the wind. It looked terribly out of place in the concrete and chain link fence, but the contrast also made it look all the more beautiful. That is what prompted me to take the photo. I didn’t think much more about it at the time, but when I came across the picture again later, I paused for reflection. This lovely flower exudes grace breaking forth from a prison, the very thing Jesus does on our behalf.

It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

Galatians 5:1

There are many things happening all at once these days. The clock keeps ticking, we are leaving Victoria in 8 weeks, and, as each day passes, we are finding more that needs to be done and less and less time to do it–all of this, occurring during a global pandemic and a great deal of uncertainty as to how this will all unfold. This little poppy, bright and beautiful was like a signpost or flag, waving me down, giving me pause, helping me to notice the little things, the moments of beauty, glimpses of God in His creation, and reminding me of His promises in a busy time: He is with me, my confidence is in Him, He is caring for me, and He will provide for all my needs.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

We are in a critical time for fundraising. In a few short weeks we will be applying for our F1 and F2 visas. It is at that time we need to show we have enough funds to live in California for a year. Nathan is completing a scholarship application that, should the Lord grant it, it will be a huge help towards our visa application. We have raised approximately $14000 CAD to date. We will need about $40000. We have begun the process of selling our personal items (furniture, 2nd vehicle etc.) and continue to collect refundable cans and bottles. We are also selling some of our yard sale donations online and hope BC’s Restart Plan will allow us to have an actual yard sale soon. We have a ways to go in order to have enough funds, but God has already provided in abundance and we trust that He will continue to do so. Would you please consider supporting us as we seek to serve God together, please contact us here or donate through our Gofundme page. Please note, our Gofundme page only reflects a small portion of the funds raised. Keep us also in prayer. Specifically, that our 4 adult children will be settled with their college, university and job plans, that Nathan, Keely and I would find confidence and peace in God as we walk through this uncertain time, that God would make our path clear and remove obstacles preventing us from going, that God would provide for our needs including the funding needed to apply for our visas and most importantly that God would be glorified in our lives. Thank you for your prayers and support.
